Knapps Theory and My Relationship

In review of Knapps relationship theory, the phase that most stood out to me was experimentation. My boyfriend and I solely met over social media. He first followed me on Instagram, and then I Snapchatted him. Some may say at this point that the rest is history and I would argue that this this is the most embarrassing way to meet your boyfriend. However, before we ever met in person we Snapchatted one another every day for several weeks (due to the fact that this was in the thick of COVID and we could not meet up in person). If it weren’t for the ability to communicate online my boyfriend and I would have never dated, or even met. Snapchat allowed us to discover common interests, learn what a typical day looks like for the other person and get general get to know you questions out of the way. When we finally met in person for the first time it felt like we had been friends for a long time maybe since we had communicated online extraneously, or maybe because we were meant for each other.

Social Media: Good or Bad?

As a society we are faced with pressing questions involving social media, and what to do with our impending generations. It is important to identify the good things social media does while also acknowledging the drawbacks. I do believe that with each social media platform comes it’s own set of pros and cons. This is because each platform appeals to different facets of our lives. Instagram is where we romanticize our own lives and post a highlight reel (con) where we keep our friends informed on major events happening in our lives (pro). TikTok can be an endless black hole where all of our time disappears (con), but you can learn new dances, recipes and add travel destinations to your bucket list (pro). Tan Republic Corvallis’ Media Presence

Tan Republic has two locations in Corvallis. They both share the same social media accounts and the website is the website for all locations. The website is very well organized. Many links to promotions, different locations, rewards, locations and other things. The first thing on the website is a video with it’s specials in a text box. In the middle, is a link to find your closest location. At the end of the home page is a form to fill out to join their news letter and “text club”. The website is easy to navigate and well organized. Information is well balanced with images. I enjoyed that they provided pictures of specific tanning beds and spray tan machines. Tan Republic posts frequently on Instagram. They share promotions and deals that they are having. The cohesiveness and aesthetic needs some work. There overall feed does not go together. Toulmin Method and Hailey vs. Selena

In the textbook Communicating Online the Toulmin method “describes several key elements of an argument (…) the claim and the reasons and evidence (also called data) offered to support the claim.” (Julia Green) page 283. This is the Toulmin method in it’s simplest terms. This method is useful to understand others arguments and your own. It helps you to look at the logic of the argument.
